Wellfest Speaker Series Addresses Hot Topics

Childhood obesity, food as medicine, and community mental health are the hot topics to be featured in the new Hot Topic Speaker Series sponsored by Chippewa Valley WellFEST on the first Friday in November, December, and January. WellFEST is a nonprofit social enterprise that provides community wellness education events, and 10 percent of the proceeds from each event will benefit a local agency. All the talks will be held 7-8pm at Forage in Banbury Place, 903 Galloway St., Building 13, Suite 212. The topics and dates include: “Childhood Obesity,” Nov. 4, with Dr. John Plewa, Mayo Clinic Health System pediatrician; “Food as Medicine,” Dec. 2, featuring Ayurveda counselor Dr. Carla Sterner, nutrition therapy practitioner Heidi Toy, and Eau Claire City Councilman Andrew Werthmann of the Forest Street Community Garden; and “Community Mental Health,” Jan. 5, with One Tree Martial Arts and I’mDoingWELL founder and owner Jeremy Buchholz, First Things First Counseling’s Chastity Drake and Dr. Ronald Potter-Efron, and Kathy Stewart and Mark Dolan of Positive Avenues.
