Recount Possible After Eight Votes Separate Candidates

A recount is possible in an Eau Claire City Council race after initial vote totals showed a mere eight votes separated incumbent Councilman Bob Von Haden and challenger Sandra McKinney. According to unofficial totals from the April 7 spring election, voters in the city’s Fourth District gave Von Haden 764 votes and McKinney 756. At press time, a recount of the ballots was still possible, and McKinney indicated she would make a decision after April 13, when the election results were to be officially certified – a process that could alter the totals, especially with the addition of absentee ballots. The outcomes of other Eau Claire City Council races were less dramatic: incumbents David Duax, David Klinkhammer, and Kathy Mitchell (who all ran unopposed) and Andrew Werthmann (who faced only token opposition) were re-elected. Meanwhile, newcomer Joe Luginbill and incumbent Kathryn Duax were elected without opposition to the Eau Claire school board.
