Wisconsin Film Fest Seeks Best of Sconnie Cinema

V1 Staff |

Are you an aspiring Badger State filmmaker dreaming of making a big break in the business? Your path to the Oscar stage may pass through Madison and the annual Wisconsin Film Festival, a filmstravaganza devoted to the Sconnie cinema. The fest accepts Wisconsin-made (or Wisconsin-connected) films in the Wisconsin’s Own and Wisconsin’s Own Student categories. Contest organizers say they are “looking for narrative, documentary, experimental, or animated work of any length” that have been completed since Jan. 1, 2016. The films must have been shot “primarily or significantly” in Wisconsin and/or at least one major member of their creative team – “director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, lead actor, etc.” – must be a current or former Wisconsin resident or an alumnus or student of a Wisconsin school. Non-student films must be submitted by Thursday, Dec. 1, while students have until Friday, Dec. 30, to submit their work. (The festival will be March 30-April 6.) If you’ve been involved in creating a feature-length or short film that had Wisco roots or in-state shoots, go to wifilmfest.org for complete submission guidelines.
