Sufjan Stevens
Sufjan Stevens looking at you.

You might recognize some things about the new set of orchestral indie pop songs by Sufjan Stevens, called Carrie & Lowell. First off, in the album credits both Sean Carey (of S. Carey) and Ben Lester (of Aero Flynn) as having provided some instrumentation on the new album. Also, a few songs were recorded at April Base, Justin Vernon’s Fall Creek studio, engineered by Brian Joseph. Carrie & Lowell will be released on March 31.

A new episode of Fishing with The Frenettes is available for a fun watch on Youtube. Eau Claire pop-rockers The Frenettes simply go fishing and curse and hang out and you can watch them do that using the magic of the internet. Check out the new episode, dubbed the “Ice Fishing Spectacular” at bit.ly/1BW6KTh.

A new supergroup of sorts called Babe, Unrest has been playing shows around Eau Claire as recent as last weekend at The Mousetrap. The alternative instrumental trio is made of Mike Noyce (Bon Iver), Paul Brandt (The Frenettes, Meridene) and Dave Power (Adelyn Rose, Meridene, PUNCHER). It’s a loose project pretty much just for fun, so don’t expect anything recorded any time soon, but keep an ear to the ground for their next local show to get your fix.

Sean Jordan can usually be seen with a guitar and a deep raspy baritone at any number of the open mics in town. Now imagine those open mics were in Boston... The talented 17-year-old senior at Regis Catholic High School is taking his deft guitar-picking and smooth vocal stylings to the Berklee College of Music in Boston this fall. Jordan applied to the college after playing all original songs to the Eau Claire crowd during our Sounds Like Summer concert series this last summer.
