Interested in learning how public investments and a focus on improving quality of life have helped attract members of the “creative class” to Eau Claire? That’s the topic of a Wednesday, March 16, panel discussion titled “How the Chippewa Valley got back its swagger: Competing in the Age of Talent,” sponsored by the Alliance for Strong Communities, a nonpartisan coalition of local governments and other groups, and RCU. According to a press release, “The event will explore why investments in public structures and quality of life amenities like public education, parks, transportation options, and downtown revitalization attracted (community residents) and are keeping them here.” Panelists will include Altoona City Manager Mike Golat; Bruce King, government affairs director of the REALTORS Association of Northwest Wisconsin; Aaron Salmon, tech consultant and founder of Code for Eau Claire; Laura Lash, a writer, yoga teacher, and community garden coordinator; Mike Schatz, city economic development administrator; and others. The program will run from 6:30-8pm in the Community Room at the RCU Corporate Center, 200 Riverfront Terrace. The event is free and open to everyone.
