Do you ever wish that you could live in a time that didn’t have selfie sticks and Buzzfeed quizzes? A world devoid of #YOLO and Fifty Shades of Grey? Well, none of that stuff existed at the turn of the millennium. For one night, here in Eau Claire, you could take a trip back to the year 2000. If you’ve ever seen Eau Claire’s buzzing pop-rock band The Millenium play live, you’ll know that the fellas in the band have a rich affinity for pop culture nostalgia. From their dynamite cover of Britney Spears’ classic hit “Toxic,” to chopped-up audio samples of gems from the ’90s and early-aughts, they’re not even trying to hide it. So it’s fitting that when they return home from their summer tour in early September their homecoming show at The Plus will be drenched in nostalgia and gold. “The Y2K, some would say, was a homecoming of time itself. A generation garnering the future of entertainment, from Britney to Backstreet. In nostalgia – from Nick to Netflix. Relegation from Razrs to redefining an era; as heirs to this new time, we are honoring the evolve by simply reliving it. Do it with us,” the band’s press materials stated. Hard-hitting Madison indie duo, Lion’s Mouth, Minneapolis hip-hoppers John Chuck & The Class, and Eau Claire’s own Granite Rose will also perform in support. Even though the actual Y2K crash was a no-show, this gig is definitely happening, and we can all relive that weird chunk of time together with The Millenium.
