Can You Help Find Mabel's Medallions?

V1 Staff |

As part of the yearlong celebration of the beautiful, historic theater’s 125th anniversary, the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts is holding three medallion hunts in Menomonie. What’s a medallion hunt? Essentially, it’s a treasure hunt during which clues are revealed daily to hint at the location of a prize – in this case, a bronze, silver, or gold medallion that entitles the finder to a fistful of chamber of commerce gift certificates plus invaluable bragging rights. It only took the release of one clue before the first medallion, which bore the image of the Louis Smith Tainter House, was found in late July. The hunt will begin for the next medallion – this one silver and bearing the image of the Wilson Place Mansion – on Monday, Aug. 17. Clues will be posted daily that week on the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts Facebook page. The search for the final (gold) medallion will be part of Mabel’s Fall Fling, a Sept. 25-26 celebration feature music, food, and family fun. Clues for that hunt will be released hourly on the hour beginning at 11am Saturday, Sept. 26. Those who find the medallions – which will be hidden outside on publicly accessible property – should email andrewmercil@gmail.com with the location they found the medallion, front and back pictures of it, and their name and contact information. The medallion hunt is a unique way to learn about Menomonie history and to celebrate the legendary landmark theater.
