Locals Pen Rootsy Folk Ode to Brett Favre

“Old Number Four,” a new single from the folk/roots duo, Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, finds the Minnesota blues-brothers crooning over everybody’s favorite NFL superstar, Brett Favre. It’s a nice homage to Favre, who’s named only by jersey number during the course of the two-minute-forty-second track, which plays out a bit like a Bob Dylan ballad. The Alexy brothers, Ian and Teague, managed to capture the more poignant aspects of fandom, with the lyrics “You gave all you had, then you gave more, they’ll never forget you, old number four,” being sung between delightfully rustic harmonica breaks. Teague and Ian prove to be a well-balanced duo, one channeling the soulful offerings of Muddy Waters, while the other provides a twangier, more folk-centric approach. The single is taken from their new album entitled American Shuffle, which was released on April 21 through Chaperone Records. It’s been produced by Ryan Young of Trampled by Turtles fame and has netted some really positive reviews. So if you’ve been craving a hearty dose of blues-infused Americana, or just want to remember the glory days of “Old Number Four,” it seems like the Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank have you covered.
