An evening of romance, traditional dancing and entertainment awaits at the 41st annual Viennese Ball, put on April 10 and 11 by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Transforming all three levels of Davies Center, guests are sure to be in awe of the costumes, decorations and traditional Vienna meals available to look at and purchase. The Viennese Ball gives guests the opportunity to participate in dances like swing, polka and waltzing as well as listening to performances by various university ensembles such as The Singing Statesmen, Jazz Ensembles and more. Karen Stuber, executive director on the Viennese Ball committee, said this year they also have a new featured silhouette artist, Tim Arnold, who’s been cutting silhouettes for the last 30 years. Stuber said she was finally able to track him down and invite him back to the ball, where he hasn’t been since the ’80s. Guests will be able to have their silhouettes drawn outside the Blugold Living Room both evenings between 7 and 11pm Also being brought back this year are the University Harps, who will perform at 8:30pm both evenings in the center quarter of the third floor of Davies. In addition, Stuber said the Edel Weiss Markt on the first floor has new staff this year, and will be featuring new decorations and material items from Europe available for purchase. At press time, tickets for April 11 are sold out, and as of March 13, there are just 300 tickets still available for April 10, so send in order forms as soon as possible to experience the “largest Viennese Ball outside of Vienne itself.”
