Toasty Times at the Creek

Beaver Creek’s Super Bowl Sunday breakfast is legendary

Barbara Arnold |

Mmmm ... a melted buttery, powdered sugary, maple syrupy French toast breakfast and activities at Beaver Creek Reserve on a winter’s morning just go together. The Beaver Creek Reserve’s French Toast Breakfast – on the first Sunday in February – is a long-standing tradition for many families in the Chippewa Valley. And while the breakfast hasn’t always fallen on Super Bowl Sunday, it’s been happening for almost 30 years now, according to the Reserve’s Marketing and Development Coordinator Melissa O’Donnell. Time flies. Breakfast is served in the main lodge, where raffles will be happening every hour on the hour. The Hobbs Observatory will be open to visit through the Chippewa Valley Astronomical Society. The Nature Center will feature the Chippewa Valley Water Color Artist Show and Sale, a special Nature Store sale, the Visit Eau Claire Fun patrol, and nature games and crafts for the entire family. Weather-permitting, you can rent skis and snowshoes for free. The French Toast Breakfast, which is a major fundraiser, has attracted up to 800 people in the past; so get your tickets early. They are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and younger in advance, and can be bought online at www.beavercreekreserve.org or at the Nature Center, Festival Foods, Mega East and West, and Fall Mart in Fall Creek. Tickets can also be bought at the door on the day of the event: $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and younger.
