“Clyde” by Laura Middlesworth
acrylic on silk, wool felt, embroidery floss; 20” x 20”; 2013

Laura Middlesworth is a fan of mixing and matching, whether it is color and texture for an artistic project or teaching and technology as an instructional designer with UW-Eau Claire.

“This piece is part one of two created for an album recently released by local band Dames. The guys – Dan, James, and Evan – were most interested in a one-of-a-kind piece to use for the album’s cover and let me run with a casual mention that the songs evoke the warmth of fall. The scene is inspired by drives through the countryside here in the Chippewa Valley; the rolling hills, bright blue skies, and amazing array of colors are all favorites of mine. A fox who had taken up residence adjacent to our property provided some additional inspiration. Clyde, the felt fox, now seems to be the band’s unofficial mascot and can be seen around town. A rather good fit for a group of guys who call themselves ‘Dames.’ Clever. Foxy.”  – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter.
