Housed in what used to be a Wendy’s in Chippewa Falls, Sakura elected to play Canadian Pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne’s 2002 smash hit “Complicated” during my meal, but there was nothing complicated about the delivery of those delicious fish rolls.

They straightforwardly do mostly sushi and hibachi, but you can sense a true culinary backbone in timeless classics like their California Roll or Steak & Shrimp Hibachi, but they include some local creations as well like the Chippewa River Roll.

Their design is neat, minimal, and calculated, which are all ways I enjoy my sushi prepared. Excellent service, a (literally) glowing bar, and and entire boat of smartly prepared sushi for the hungry and ambitious. Literally, the Sakura Love Boat is a tiny wooden ship filled to brim with sushi.

Sakura delivered, and it affirms my love for sushi. If you’re on the fence, I might do something crazy like push you over: Those who are apprehensive about trying sushi should mark this as territory for their debut.
