“Big Maple at Bear Lake: Mile 28” by Jane Foos
fiber, 8.5”x11”, 2011

Jane Foos creates dimensional artwork using surface design techniques of painting with textiles and thread. She uses fabrics for the main colors-shapes and sketches with threads. Themes are based on naturalized images produced in an interpretative style.

“I bike and run the Chippewa River State Trail frequently and find great inspiration in its quiet beauty.  Bear Lake: Mile 28, and Bear Creek Bridge are two of eight scenes I created representing popular sections of the bike trail. Working from my photographs I interpreted the images using hand cut fabrics, raw edge appliqué. I used free motion thread sketching to enhance the fine details of the leaves, plants and trees. I tried to capture the quiet solitude users experience on our great Wisconsin trails.” – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter.
