Still Time to Join Shared Garden

V1 Staff |

Lacking space for a garden at your home or just worried that your thumb isn’t green enough to sustain one by yourself? Community gardens are designed for people just like you. While all the individual rental plots at the Forest Street Community Garden in Eau Claire have been filled for the season, there’s still time to sign up as a member of the shared garden. The acre-plus shared garden on Forest Street is maintained by roughly 60 gardeners who volunteer for three set shifts during the week and take home their share of the produce after each shift. The fee to join the shared garden is $10 for the season or $20 per household. For an application, go to http://tinyurl.com/qz2gwwk. (You can fill out the application online or print and mail it.) Checks can be made out to Community Parks Association and sent to Andrew Werthmann, 616 Wisconsin St., Apt. No. 1, Eau Claire, WI 54703. Extra food from the nonprofit garden is donated to the Community Table, St. Francis Food Pantry, and other local charitable groups, so your hard work will put food on your own plate while ensuring your neighbors in need have access to fresh, nutritious fare as well.
