Each June, Chippewa Valley artists and their admirers mingle at the Jubilee, an elegant evening of entertainment, art auctions, and fine dining at the Florian Gardens that raises money for the Eau Claire Regional Arts Council. Previous year’s parties have been so much fun that this year ECRAC is extending the celebration in two directions. First, a prelude social will be held from 5 to 6pm in the lobby of the State Theatre, 316 Eau Claire St., for those who want to mingle. (Shuttles will carry guests from the Theatre to Florian Gardens.) Then, after the main event concludes, the celebration will continue at an AfterGlow party backstage at the theater, with music from the Michael Rambo Project as well as food, drinks, and casino entertainment. Those who attend Jubilee can get into the AfterGlow free; others can join the New Orleans-style fun for $20. In between the two parties is the Jubilee itself, a masquerade ball-themed celebration of all that is beautiful and artistic in the Chippewa Valley. “Elegance and mystery is our motif this year,” said Jubilee coordinator Jamie Kane. “Music by the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra will set the mood, reminiscent of a grand Viennese masquerade ball, the perfect occasion for a stunning updo hairstyle and flowing chiffon gown.” (In other words, dress up, OK?) Amid the champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and three-course dinner, there will be music and an art auction featuring works by a who’s-who of the local scene: Tim Bruckner, Mel Sundby, Bob Hume, Barbara Shafer, Anders Shafer, Allen Servoss, Terry Meyer, Roger Adams, Thomas Gardner, David Caradori, and David Knowlton, C.J. Connor, Jason Anhorn, and Patricia Mayhew-Hamm (the latter, who works in water media, is this year’s featured artist). If you’re looking to add a touch of elegance – and a work or art or two – to your life this summer, Jubilee is the perfect way to start.
