A Little Flat

ECCT presents Flat Stanley musical

Marcus Downs |

The newest production from the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre, The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr., tells of a boy who is forced to make the best of life after being flattened by a bulletin board. He soon discovers that being two-dimensional has its advantages: he slips under doors, poses as a painting, and even lets his brother fly him as a kite. Flat Stanley is a fun but inspiring story about making the best of physical disabilities. The play is based on a children’s book of the same title written by Jeff Brown. Director Wayne Marek is extremely excited to present what has become one of the most beloved children’s books. “Every year we survey area teachers to see what book titles are popular,” he explains, “and year after year, Flat Stanley is near the top of the list, making it the obvious choice.” He is also excited to be working with so many new faces. “The auditions really brought out a lot of actors we’ve never had the opportunity to work with before.” In addition to the performances, the Saturday shows will be preceded by an activity program, “Around the World With Flat Stanley” which will include games, refreshments, and a chance to meet the cast. The activities begin one hour before each show and cost an extra $5, and space is limited, so reservations are required.
