Hey, Hey Shillelagh!

celebrate St. Patty’s Day with the Valley’s most Irishy band

Allison Puestow |

Want to get the real Irish pub experience this St. Patrick’s Day weekend? Then look no further, for the Shillelagh Lads will deliver. On March 15, kick off St. Patty’s weekend in true Irish style with the Lads’ fifth annual St. Patty’s Party. The party is held over at Houligans Steak and Seafood Pub, located at 415 S. Barstow St., where the Lads are the house band. Throughout the year, the Lads give monthly performances at Houligans, but St. Patrick’s weekend brings out the biggest and best performance. The guest stars of their monthly performances and this big bash are the Eau Claire Irish Dancers, who jig in and around the crowd as the boys play. The Lads provide that upbeat, basement-of-the-Titanic feel to all their performances, complete with immigrant garb, theatrical characters, and the traditional Irish ballads and songs that we all love. Lad Michael Rambo said, “It’s the party you want to be at.” The Shillelagh Lads focus on community-centered entertainment and, as Rambo puts it, “The crowd becomes an instrument in the show.” Trust me, with dancers and singers walking through the crowd, you can’t help but be a part of the entertainment. When you’re in Ireland, you want to experience that Friday night, local-band-in-a-small-town-pub that plays all the traditional Irish songs. This is exactly what the Shillelagh Lads have brought to us here in Eau Claire. So, if you’re itching for that authentic pub experience this St. Patrick’s weekend, head on down to Houligans for the best party in town. You can make a reservation ahead of time, otherwise Houligans opens at 4pm and will start selling wristbands then. It is a first-come-first-serve basis, so go early if you want to reserve a seat.
