Looking for a new place to relax and enjoy the river view near Water Street? Plans are afoot for a new public look-out spot over the river. Downtown Eau Claire Inc. recently gave a $5,000 grant to the Water Street Business Improvement District to kickstart the project, which is expected to cost about $100,000 and could take four or five years. The plan involves a 30-by-40-foot deck at the corner of Menomonie Street and Fifth Avenue, at the intersection of the Chippewa River Bike Trail. In addition, a route to and from the water would be added. (Currently, there’s no easy access to the river in the Water Street area.) The City Council must still OK the project.
