“I’ll have you know that I have a firm grasp upon what’s both important and earnest.” The Menomonie Theater Guild is staging the Oscar Wilde classic The Importance of Being Earnest.

In addition to celebrating its 54th season, The Menomonie Theater Guild will be producing the well-known Oscar Wilde play, The Importance of Being Earnest, on Oct. 11-12 and 18-19, starting at 7:30pm, as well as on October 20 with a show at 2pm. The Importance of Being Earnest, subtitled A Trivial Comedy for Serious People, details two Victorian characters, Jack and Algernon, who attempt to escape the social expectations of their individual lives and of the complications brought on by social stigmas throughout this era. Little do they know by both adopting the false name “Earnest,” Jack and Algernon’s stories hilariously intertwine. Not only does this show portray the literary and artistic work of Wilde, but this play has also become known for its comical dialogue and satire. Thus, making The Importance of Being Earnest one certainly worth seeing this season.
