New Signs mark miles on Chippewa, Old Abe State Trails

Our for a jog and forgot your pedometer? The Indianhead Track Club is here to help. The running group recently donated $1,600 to the city of Eau Claire to pay for signs marking every half-mile along the city portions of the Chippewa River State Trail and Old Abe State Trail. The shiny blue Chippewa River State Trail signs, which begin in Phoenix Park  and trace the route south along the waterway to the city limits, were installed in early October. The eagle-bedecked red, white, and blue signs for the Old Abe State Trail aren’t ready yet, but they are expected to go up later this month, following the path from Phoenix Park northward to the edge of town, says Phil Fieber, city parks director. Fieber says the track club offered the donation because it uses city trails for many of its races, including the upcoming Half Moon 5K and Caron Park 10-mile runs on Oct. 26.
