“Grumpy Old Men” by Abbey Berg
earthenware, acrylic, fabric, roughly 9” tall, 2012

Abbey Berg is an art and design student at UWEC, working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics and sculpture. She enjoys working in the three-dimensional form.

"I wanted to create a work that told a story, a narrative. This was to tell a story of two old friends, maybe even best friends, just enjoying each other’s company. They represent a long-lasting friendship that can last a lifetime. My men are hand-built out of earthenware.  The cigar and hats are meant to be removable. I painted them and made each their own outfit so they wouldn’t have to hang out in the nude. My work is playful, whimsical, referential and can even be unpleasant at times. I am a process-oriented artist, and I enjoy taking risks in the use of new materials.” – The Artist
