Have you ever wanted to see what your favorite Broadway musicals would be like if all the roles were reversed? Now you can! The Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is putting on its own production of Miscast 2013: Never Underestimate the Power of the Pronoun at the Oxford Theatre Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10.

The show features classic Broadway tunes that many of us know and love, but there’s a hilarious twist. All of the male roles are played by women and the female roles are played by men. If you think this show sounds familiar, you are right. The Eau Claire Children’s Theatre had put on a similar show in 2011 (called Miscast 2011) and it was such a big success that they wanted to do it again.

Members of the theatre group originally came up with the idea in 2011 after countless nights of sitting around a piano and singing old showtunes while complaining that the other gender always gets the best songs.

Miscast 2013 will feature all-new songs and a new cast of over 25 performers. The show will feature songs from classic Broadway shows such as Guys and Dolls, Annie, Pippin, Hairspray, and Oliver! Director Steve Turek wanted to keep the actuals songs of the show a surprise, but is certain no audience member will be disappointed.

“The script is loosely based on A Chorus Line where performers are auditioning and sharing real theatre stories and songs. “The stories that we’ve collected over the years are all true and quite funny,” Turek said. The “twist” is what makes Miscast that much more enjoyable.
