Eau Claire is buzzing with music this summer, whether it is in a park or outside a college dorm; everyone is turning up their speakers and enjoying what this sweet summertime has to offer.

If you can’t get enough music in your life check out Block Party EC, a family-friendly Saturday-evening concert series sponsored by Catalyst Church of Eau Claire. Scott Whiting, an elder at the church, said he wanted to find a way to connect with the community because the church was so new in town.
Even though these concerts are put on by a church, not all the music is religious. Whiting said a variety of sounds are included in their block parties and nobody is excluded.

“We have blanketed the town with about 20,000 door hangers specifically to make it clear to everybody that everybody is welcome, it’s come one, come all,” Whiting said.

For Whiting, these gatherings are about more than sharing music; they are a way to connect with others.

“(We’re) kind of getting old-fashioned here in a way, remembering the days when people knew each other and cared about each other and took the time to get to know each other and open up our circle of relationships a little bit,” Whiting said.

Block Party EC is held at 6:30pm each Saturday evening through Aug. 24 at Charleston Square Plaza, 22207 Fairfax St., Eau Claire. In addition to music, the parties feature food and games. Upcoming acts include The Michael Rambo Project, July 20; King’s Countrymen, July 27; and Breaking Chains, Aug. 3.
