A Hot New Sub Shop

Briana Novacek |

There’s a new sandwich joint coming to town, and it’s certainly turning up the heat. Firehouse Subs, a company that boasts 625 locations currently, will be making its debut in Eau Claire on July 2 at 5413 Prill Road (next to Burrachos, across the street from Kohl’s). Owners Karl Bednar and Mark Schlytter say what sets Firehouse apart is its commitment to the community, the quality of its food (they use USDA-choice beef and home-state cheese), and their commitment to service in the restaurant. And get this: Firehouse Subs was started by two firefighting brothers in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1994. Today, the restaurants all have a Public Safety Foundation, which raises money for first-responders, firefighters, and police officers. Combined with free-will donations from customers, Firehouse also donates a percentage of its profits locally. This money provides basic lifesaving equipment to the community. You can find more info at FirehouseSubs.com, but warning: only check out their website if you’re ready for serious mouth-watering.
