“Only in Memory” by Dustin Schipper
Watercolor, graphite, conte, and ink, 33” x 25.5,”

Dustin Schipper is a 22-year-old art student at the UW-Eau Claire. He works primarily in painting and sculptural mediums and plans to go to graduate school for architecture.

“Much of my work focuses on the idea of place and the connections these places have to our culture and daily lives. This painting in particular is a reflection on the transitory nature of the homes within what is referred to as ‘the student ghetto.’  Every year hundreds of homes switch hands from one temporary group of owners to the next. Each of these homes has had hundreds of occupants individually, each with their own unique memory of the place, with many of these memories contradicting each other in both form and substance.  Over time these homes will no longer be up to code and will be demolished; continuing to exist only as fading fragments in the minds of so many different people who once called them home, and who will each remember them differently.” – The Artist
