A musical known for its large-scale production and cast, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, will be showing right here in the Chippewa Valley at The State Theatre, put on by the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a very well-known, classic movie musical, but the Broadway version has never been done in Eau Claire,” said Wayne Marek, executive director of the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre. “It’s a high-energy dance show with great music and a fun storyline, so we thought it was time to bring the stage version to Eau Claire audiences.”

Based on the 1954 MGM movie, the show is also most known for playing into gender themes. It has it all: women nagging men to grow up, get married, and settle down; those men then taking things too far and kidnapping women to be their brides; the kidnapped women then exhibiting signs of Stockholm Syndrome by falling in love with their captors; and everyone living happily ever after. You know, the usual.
