The Gas Guzzlers of 2011

The Bugatti Veyron gets 8 mpg in the city.

If you stay awake at night dreaming of a post-apocalyptic world filled with SUV’s that burn a mix of crushed up wind turbines and solar panels for fuel, then these cars are for you. This list starts at number one because counting down from five is overrated.

  1. Coming in at number one is the Bugatti Veyron. The last thing on the mind of a Veyron owner, what with its multi-million dollar price tag, is how fuel efficient it is. Said individual is likely more worried about hitting a low flying crow at 200+ mph on an abandoned stretch of road than the barrel price of oil. Regardless, the sleek Bugatti Veyron comes in 1st for worst fuel economy of 2011 with 8 mpg city and 15 highway.

  2. Although it doesn’t cost over a million dollars, or even close to that, you probably still can’t afford the Aston Martin DB9. The DB9 comes in second for worst fuel economy with a city mpg of 11, and 17 highway. Pretending your James Bond comes at a cost;  having to stop for gas more often than you would to take a leak.

  3. The Bentley Continental GTC FFV almost has more flashy letters in its name than miles between gallons of gasohol. Bentley’s recipe for drowning out the voices in your head yelling about “going green” and “being conservative” is to put the top down and drive really fast. Still, rated at 11mpg city, and 18mpg highway, you’re going to have to pull over to refill the tank sooner than later.

  4. I once heard from a very smart person that if you’re going to waste gas, drive really fast so you get there faster, and in effect use less gas. I wouldn’t want to place any bets on this logic, but with over 450hp you could do your own Mythbusters-style series of tests to find out in the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe. What I do know is this beast navigates the city at 11mpg, and cruises the highways at an unheard of 18 mpg.

  5. Coming in at 5th place on the list is the Cadillac CTS Wagon. What else is there to say? It's a Cadillac, it's a wagon, and it gets poor gas mileage. 12mpg city and 18 mpg highway to be exact. If you want to drive the kids around in a Cadillac with room to spare, guzzle up fuel like it’s nobody’s business, and just look like you’re the man than buy it already. But seriously, it’s a station wagon.

So there it is, a list of 2011’s most fuel inefficient cars available to the modern consumer. It’s no surprise that they are nearly all rare and expensive items that lean towards earning “cool points” at the local yacht club more so than giving mother nature a high five.
