“Winter Giants” by Ann Berger-Neidhold
watercolor, 16” x 18”

“I painted this picture from my window at home during a heavy winter storm in 2010. One of those days that are best viewed with a good book, a cup of hot chocolate, a fire and a great view of the winter wonderland that was happening right there. I usually like to paint from the things around me. The things that I can see out of my window, on the lake or in my garden.  I am lucky to be a member of the Beaver Creek Water Color group.  I feel that they have helped me expand my horizons, helped me with a critical eye and been a great source of friendships with talented people.”  – The Artist

What we were thinking: "Ann Berger of Chippewa Falls created "Winter Giants" in the dead of winter. It was used as a cover for our latest cycle for its northwoods picturesque qualities portrayed by the pine trees and the old buildings covered in snow heaps. The elements in the piece also allow for ample room to  insert the masthead and cover blurbs so they don't disrupt the piece. The watercolor medium invokes a tranquil setting from the texture of the paper and how the inks wash into one another. Although we haven't gotten a huge snowstorm this year, hopefully this painting  portrays what's  yet to come." V1 Designer Josh Smeltzer
