The City of Eau Claire has been given an opportunity to “brag” nationally thanks to an offer made by Fox’s Today in America show producers. Scheduled as part of the network’s “America’s Best Places to Live, Work, and Play” segment, which is hosted by former NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw, this five-minute video will market Eau Claire and all it offers for residents. “It’s a chance to market the city in the public sector to people we wouldn’t normally reach,” said City Council President Kerry Kincaid, explaining that the show would initially air on Fox Business News and in 19 other markets as selected by the city. “That’s a lot of marketing for a small-ish city.” The video will cost $19,800, but thanks to agreements made with UW-Eau Claire, Mayo Clinic Health Systems, and Visit Eau Claire, the taxpayer portion of the video will be about $12,000. “You don’t just spend $19,000 in the blink of an eye,” Kincaid said about the project’s price tag as she explained how the city thought out the decision to produce the video. According to Kincaid, one major bonus of the agreement is that the city will own all rights to the finished video, which can be used to generate traffic on the city’s website, by local businesses as part of their own marketing, and however else the city sees fit. “I’m so proud that we were approached,” said Kincaid. “The story we’ll tell will make us all proud to live here.” Filming will wrap up in the end of October, with the video airing sometime this winter.
