Look up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane. No, it’s The Eau Claire Comics Hobby Expo! On September 17, comic fans, hobby enthusiasts, or just plain anyone who’s interested can enjoy a day of displays, shopping, and all the childhood nostalgia they can handle. Started by a few local comic and hobby enthusiasts, the expo is designed to bring a group of people who have like-minded hobbies together to have a good time and embrace their pastimes. The expo will feature special guests and vendors who specialize in comics, video games, models, sculptures, and more. Rob Mattison, one of the founders of the expo, says he hopes it will show the community how many artists make a living doing their art – show that there are professions in art if you stick with it. He also went on to say that the sole motivation for doing the expo is to give people, with what may be considered non-traditional hobbies, a way to meet up and have a great time. And as long as they can break even, this will be an annual event. Enjoy the comic work of Steve Kurth (Marvel), Andrew Ritchie (Image & Boom), Jessica Geis, and Mark Lone, plus appearances by author/sculptor Tim Bruckner, diorama artist Mike Wallace, Game Geeks host Kurt Wiegel, caricature artist Tom Jannusch, and the one and only Spider-Man (a dude in a costume).
