Need a 'No-Firearms' Sign?

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve heard about Wisconsin’s new conceal and carry law. You know, that piece of legislation that allows us to walk around with hidden weapons? Well, it goes into effect November 1. According to said law, one may conceal a weapon in public places excluding police stations, courthouses, and schools. The other exception is businesses posting signs prohibiting weapons on their premises – and that’s where Bolton Refuge House comes in. Since 1977, Bolton Refuge House has been working to end domestic violence and sexual assault in the Chippewa Valley. In response to the new legislation, the house has created regulation signs for local businesses. Any business wishing to ban weapons must have a posted sign with a clear message prohibiting patrons from bringing weapons inside the building. Business owners can purchase the signs by stopping in Bolton Refuge or emailing boltonrefugehouse@att.net to make a request. If you’d rather make your own, the house is a great resource for learning the sign regulations. According to Jerry Wilke, Bolton Refuge House’s executive director, house employees will be out and about in the community over the next couple of months raising awareness of the new law and selling signs. Signs cost $3 for businesses and $2 for non-profits. Proceeds go to Bolton Refuge House.
