It’s rare that the Chippewa Valley sees an opera or ballet, let alone one of the highest caliber. But this summer, Oakwood’s Carmike Cinemas is trying to remedy that. Carmike Cinemas is joining the Emerging Pictures network of cinemas to feature live and encore presentations of operas and ballets at their numerous locations across the country. We just missed the live showing of Teatro Regio di Parma’s The Barber of Seville, but you can catch the encore on May 4. Other features include Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino’s Aida, live on May 3, 1:30pm, encore on May 11. Bolshoi Ballet’s Coppelia shows live May 29 at 10am, encore June 8. The Royal Opera House’s MacBeth broadcasts live June 13 at 1:30pm with the encore June 19. The last feature of the series is Paris Opera Ballet’s Children of Paradise, live July 9 at 12:30pm, and encore July 20. All encores air at 7:30pm and cost the same as the live feature – $25 for adults, $21 for kids.
