In a unique concerto, the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra will team with a different kind of soloist. At the upcoming performance at Grace Lutheran Church on February 26 at 7:30pm, artist Joe Maurer will exhibit a small series of work featuring urban critters. In his paintings, Maurer examines the idea that wild creatures tend to ignore human boundaries, often making urban environments their home. “We draw the boundaries, not the critters,” he said. “And painting is a means to seeing [that].” Indeed, there is much to see in these works that show everyday interactions many of us tend to overlook between these animals and our homes. Through using a mixture of paint, collage, and beeswax, Maurer creates a dimension of depth and preservation, drawing the eye to cityscapes in harmony with nature.
