The Foster Gallery is opening the spring semester with a bang, as their current gallery exhibition features six artists from around the globe – artists whose works you may have already seen in recent films, commercials, and video games. Digital Vision runs through Feb. 17 in UW Eau Claire’s Haas Fine Arts Center and includes digital art pieces from Wei Chen, Morgan Yon, Drazenka Kimpel, Sanjay Chand, Ge Feng, and Lampo Leong. Chen describes digital art as finding a balance between the soft harmonies of traditional art and the speed of technology. Artworks range from Ge Feng’s raw stenciled graffiti to Kimpel’s natural pieces that look more like watercolor paintings than computer compositions. Both Chand and Yon have used their talents in video games like Halo and Heavy Rain and several movies, creating incredibly realistic backgrounds and figures. If that’s not cool enough, Leong’s digital paintings even earned him his own namesake day in San Francisco… not to mention that the whole thing is free.
