A brief drive down Eau Claire Street into Banbury Place will take you to one of the area’s newest locally owned and operated eateries. Park in the lot by the daycare and then, following the glowing “Open” sign, take a flight of stairs up to the former Banbury cafeteria – now home to Lewie J’s. “This place,” says owner and cook Lewis Johnson, “is where finally we’re bringing families back to the table.” The restaurant opened Nov. 1 and has a breakfast menu that features diner standards including meat and cheese sandwiches, omelets, pancakes (take special note of the strawberry shortcake pancakes), French toast, biscuits and gravy, and all sorts of other options. Lunch and dinner offers build-your-own deli sandwiches, burgers, and a selection of other common “American” family dinners at reasonable prices. But what makes Lewie J’s a cut above the rest, without a doubt, is Lewis’ all-original homemade barbecue pork ribs. A family specialty featuring Lewis’s super savory and secret barbecue sauce, this entree is available by the full rack, single portions, or rib tips with sweet corn, dinner rolls, and potato wedges. Deliveries and carry out available after 11am.
