Let's get serious.

Let's get serious.
If you haven’t had lunch downtown in a while, now’s the time to do it. Heck, there are even several options for breakfast – something previously pretty hard to come by downtown. It’s been kind of dizzying, at least by Western Wisconsin standards, the amount of locally-owned restaurants and bars opening near the heart of the city over the last couple months. There are of course plenty of old standbys, too many to mention. But some of the newest spots include a full breakfast, lunch, and confection menu at Obsession Chocolates on S. Barstow, the locally-owned franchise sandwich shop Smiling Moose Deli near Phoenix Park, Lewie J’s in Banbury Place, and the (24-hour!) coffee shop Tempo, also in the Phoenix Park neighborhood. On the nightlife side there’s The Fire House on Gibson and just around the corner from that is Playmakers (in the old Haymarket space) and a couple more blocks north, The Sports Page. There’s even a slew of new retail like Renata Marie’s, Revival Records, Ella & Eve, Little LA, and of course The Local Store. Back that list up just a few more months and I could add a dozen more things. All that and the city just kicked off the discussion about major downtown street revisioning to take place over the next couple years. If there’s ever been downtown momentum, it’s now.
