Coffee shops and live music go together like bees and honey, but it’s not every day you walk into a java joint and get an earful of pealing, ambient electronica mingled with indie folk rock. Kids, hang on to your stocking caps because things are about to get heady. On December 3, Harmony Corner Café will host an atypical quadruple line-up featuring local acts Merlin Monroe (of Farms), The Heart Pills, and Whalehouse, along with Minneapolis-based band Bambi and the Tin Man. Whalehouse vocalist and guitarist Clayton Brice is excited to reunite with the musicians, many of whom are long-time friends. “I’m really excited to have all these bands in the same room,” he expressed. “It’s cool that we can all play together.” Despite the unconventional venue, experimental acts Merlin Monroe and Whalehouse both plan on staying true to their sound in terms of volume and intensity. “We play aggressive at times, loud at times – all the dynamics will be there,” assured Brice. Faithful fans and café patrons alike can expect to hear a wide range of original and improvised tracks, enjoy savory food and drinks, and absorb the creative energy.
