Imagine a beautiful fall day where you get to lazily motor around through back country roads, taking in the rural farms and fall leaves at their most radiant. What to do on the way? Check out these two fabulous art tours, both happening the first weekend of October. The Falling Leaves Art Studio Tour is an annual tour of the studios of a myriad of artists who live and work in or near Augusta, Fairchild, Fall Creek, Humbird, and Osseo (15 studios (18 stops) and 37 artists in all). The show is filled with the work of painters, potters, carvers, candle makers, and jewelers, including the work of Mary Melcher, Matt Philleo, Mel Sundby, and Jean Young, to name a few. The other tour, known as the Fresh Art Tour, is in its 13th year of showcasing some of the most talented artists in the Lake Pepin and Chippewa River region. This year, excursionists can view 17 unique sites and peruse art pieces from more than 30 artists, whether it be pottery, paintings, drawings, or carvings from artists like Jean Accola, Bruce Dunlap, Andrea Myklebust, and BJ Christofferson. New this year, they can also take a convenient tour bus. At every stop there are also several demonstrations of the artists’ crafts.
