New Campus Sculpture Incorporates Sciencey Stuff

Sarah McCall |

As many UW-Eau Claire summer pupils may have noticed, there has been a recent addition to the sculpture count on campus. The latest science sculpture can be found outside of Phillips Hall, celebrating the school’s appreciation of both science and art. The structure was designed by artist Susan Walsh and is titled, The Study of Structure, Blood Cells and Magnetism. This two-section piece is dripping with symbolism tied to many scientific fields. The cone represents the study of structure. The other half is composed of a magnet, standing as a tribute to the natural pulls of the earth, and red blood cells, which represent various scientific courses from biology to electron microscopy. The themes and artistry naturally bring together these important two aspects of the university.
