Local Figure Skater on Icy Path to Nationals

Kinzy Janssen |

Angela Krueger has spun, jumped, stepped, and glided on ice skates many hours a week for many years. Recently, her practice paid off when she passed her Gold Freestyle Figure Skating Test – the highest existing test-level for skating, which qualifies her to compete at the U.S. Championships. Additionally, across the nation, the skaters who pass the Gold test comprise the possible pool of Olympic representatives. Passing the test, a feat that only 59 percent of attempting skaters achieve, required completing 12 technical elements. But it’s more than just a checklist; the athletes must exhibit sure-footedness and artistic expression according to the character of the music. Krueger, a junior at Regis High School and a member of the Eau Claire Figure Skating Club, did both.
