The two (rather displeasing) Blugold mascot options: The Voyageur and the Blugold Ox.

The committee appointed to select an official mascot for UWEC is asking alumni, faculty, staff, and students to weigh in on the three options they came up with. The Voyageur (a French Davey Crockett, as best we can tell), The Blugold Ox (Bunyan’s sidekick with a twinge of gold, as best we can tell), or stay as is, meaning no mascot. Judging from the few dozen people who have commented online, they aren’t terribly pleased by the options. So nothing may be a contender.

In somewhat similar news, the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is trying to devise an awesome name for its new theater space (see the full story in an upcoming issue). They’ve done a bunch of surveys and narrowed it down to seven options, and people are encouraged to vote on them through VolumeOne.org. After 300 votes last week, the top choices are “The Oxford” and “The Annex.”
