Work by Justin Dancing Hawk

Stop by the Heyde Center to view the artwork of Justin Dancing Hawk, February’s Artist of the Month. Hawk received his formal training at the University of South Dakota Vermillion College of Fine Arts and at the University of Indiana. Justin now lives in Chippewa Falls and enjoys sculpting soft stone such as alabaster and marble, along with combining the elements of stone, wood, and metal to capture the planet’s natural beauty. In the midst of a chemically bright and busy world, the majestic glory of a mountain peak piercing a blue sky or the soothing lines of a waterfall have a powerful effect on the viewer. Many of his pieces likewise incorporate wildlife such as birds of prey (owls, hawks), cougars, and herons. Hawk’s art celebrates the genuine, stunning colors of nature as well as the Native American tradition that all things have life and should be honored.
