The Last Semester

Memorial High School’s International Outreach Club will make both a local and an international impact through one unique event. The third annual Uganda Rock concert will be held in Memorial’s cafeteria on February 12. Ten local high school bands will be showcased in one 15-minute set each. Headlining bands include The Last Semester, Won Siemit, and Our Judgment. One hundred percent of Uganda Rock’s profits will benefit Invisible Children, an organization in Uganda that improves living conditions there. IOC also conducts a year-round book drive for Uganda, and those that bring a book get in for $4 as opposed to $5. According to student organizer Elliott Adler, the event was inspired by Mrs. Zeegers, the IOC’s advisor. “She tries to teach her students empathy,” Adler stated, adding that he will perform with his band, Wasabi Ska. As a result of improved planning, he predicts this year’s event will see almost twice the turnout as last year’s, wherein 180 people attended. Last year’s event raised about $2,000 for Invisible Children.
