Cover Song Project Harnessed For Good Cause

Aryn Widule |

On the first Tuesday of every month eclectic folk duo Coconut and The Duke crank out a jam for their Cover of the Month Club. In the spirit of the holidays, this month’s installment, Brother Can You Spare a Dime, will be used to raise awareness for Feed My People, an organization that has provided food to pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters in western Wisconsin for 27 years. A depression-era song, the tune has been described as an anthem for the shattered dreams of the era. The cover, featuring ukulele, guitar, vocals, and body percussion is just as heart-wrenching as previous incarnations. Emily Moore, executive director of FMP, heard a demo of the track and has given her enthusiastic blessing. The organization has been given the green light to use the track however they like. Find the tune, as well as previous Cover of the Month explorations, on the band’s website and are encouraged to donate this season to Feed My People at www.fmpfoodbank.org.
