Local Sports Announcer Writes Fiction Novel

Emma O'Brien |

Express radio announcer Scott Montesano is taking his passion for sports to a whole new level. Montesano, who hails from New York state and now resides in Eau Claire, loosely based his new novel The Call of Life on his own experiences as an announcer for baseball and hockey teams across the East Coast and Midwest. The protagonist, Kevin, a young college grad from upstate New York, makes a cross-country move to North Dakota after accepting a foot-in-the-door broadcasting position for a minor league hockey team. Away from home, but doing what he loves, Kevin learns that there’s a life outside the rink. As he faces the difficulties of young adulthood he begins to doubt his chosen field. Montesano’s venture into literature has proven him adept at more than reporting a ball game. The Call of Life is a coming-of-age story energized by the sports elements Montesano has woven in, as if reciting a play-by-play of Kevin’s life.
