The editor, curling.

I recently discovered curling. Obviously I’ve heard of and seen curling before – you know, that weird ice-based game where people push a heavy stone toward a huge target (painted right on the ice) while a couple of their team mates emphatically “sweep” the ice directly in front of the stone as it (hopefully) makes its way to the center of said target. Turns out, there’s a very healthy curling club in Eau Claire and they have a beautifully kept up patch of frozen water in a building at the Eau Claire County Expo Center. They had a low-key “open house” a couple weeks back, so a few friends and I gave it a shot. It was great – finesse, strategy, competition. However, unlike the heckling and rivalries of kickball, apparently in curling you’re supposed to be very “polite” and “gracious.” Despite that, it was a lot of fun. As far as I’m concerned, some league curling could be a key to keeping Winter interesting around here. They say it takes years, even a lifetime, to master the game. So I guess I have time on my side. 2030 Olympics here I come.
