Not every event in the Chippewa Valley is creative gold. Not even close. I don’t have to tell you that. But already this year there have been several times where I left an event and was truly excited about what I had just seen. The Optical Delusions at the Grand Little Theatre. The Art Crawl at Banbury Place. The Kinsey Sicks at the State Theatre. A couple of the recent Bachelor of Fine Arts shows at UWEC’s Foster Gallery. The Laarks CD release show at the House of Rock. Whether it was the art, the performance, or just the sheer ambition of the endeavor – these were times I felt really lucky to live here. Add to that list the Fashion Without Fabric event at UW-Stout. I’d heard how cool this event was, and on April 18 I was finally able to see it for myself. It was awesome. Nearly 700 people packed in to see 150 artists collaborate on wide range of 75 jaw-dropping “fashions” that pushed the limits of wearable art.
