I’ve been reading, hearing, and seeing a lot lately about “The End of Newspapers.” Major changes are quickly sweeping across the nation in the newspaper industry. A handful of major US cities have lost their big papers and several more are on the brink of collapse. Daily papers are becoming weeklies. Some are going on-line only. People are losing their jobs, and communities are losing their voices. Excuses and new ideas alike are being argued and discussed every day.

But these issues aren’t just affecting big city newspapers, they can even affect small local operations like Volume One. So more than ever, both big and small operations need to stop and listen to their readers to find their way to the future of local media. That’s something we’re hoping to do over the coming months, and we’re thinking our readers won’t hesitate to help us. What do YOU want from Volume One – both as a media outlet and as a community organization? What should we be doing in print? What should we be doing online? For that matter, what shouldn’t we be doing?

We’d really appreciate it if you’d help get our discussion started by sending an email with your views and ideas: nick@volumeone.org
