annual snowshoe race back for the third year

Be honest: right about now, in the dead of winter, you’re bored out of your mind and probably thinking, “Where can I find pizza, hot chocolate, and snowshoeing all in one place?” Well at the Swiss Miss Rumble in the Jungle Snowshoe Race, of course! The race for first place begins at Lowes Creek Park, behind the Eau Claire Expo Center. The event features three races: a five-mile race for those who like to run; a two-mile race for those who just want to snowshoe and enjoy the scenery; and a quarter-mile “Mascot Race,” which is for children and local businesses’ mascots. Fazoli’s and Action City are just a few of the area businesses that are going to take part. Awards will be given out to first, second, and third place in the five-mile race, and to the fastest mascot. An “Overall Female” and “Male Artisan” trophy will go to the first male and female to make it to the finish line in the five-mile race. Registration is from 9-10:30 am the day of the event, or in advance online at www.chippewavalleysports.com. The event is hosted by Paula Dusick, along with Mark and Emily Blaskey. Originated by Dusick’s husband Timmy, who made snowshoeing popular in the Eau Claire area, the race now serves as a memorial to Timmy since he has passed away. Stocking caps are given out to the first 120 people to register, so you better get going! And if you’re not lucky enough to get a cap, you can still rock out your snowshoes with some hot chocolate and delicious pizza!
