Frozen River Film Festival Returns to Winona

Trevor Kupfer |

The title of “film festival” may not suit the upcoming three-day event at Winona State University beginning Jan. 22-24. The Frozen River Film Festival, in its fourth year, engages, educates, and activates participants to become more involved in the world. Through films, music, discussions, presentations, and workshops, the festival offers new perspectives on environmental issues, sustainability, extreme sports, adventure travel, and cultural diversity. This year’s films include everything from a two-minute animated short to features such as Blasted!!! The Gonzo Patriots of Hunter S. Thompson and Irena Salina’s award-winning documentary Flow: For the Love of Water. Speakers include acclaimed nature photographer David Cavagnaro, while Pert Near Sandstone heads the music side of things. In the past, the festival has screened such films as The Real Dirt on Farmer John, Invisible Children, The 11th Hour, and An Inconvenient Truth. For more information, visit www.frff.org.
